These are the residences for Yumanghan. As with the occupations these are essentially just a basis, as you may request a different kind of residence should you have one in mind.

The larger, more expensive houses are for those who live with multiple people, so if you're a single member requesting to live there you probably won't be able to. Anywhere else is acceptable however so long as it makes sense regarding your occupation.
